Bluestar Mothers day

Today is Blue Star Mothers Day. Blue Star Mothers Day is a day in recognition of all mothers and guardians who have children in the armed forces. This isn't a day to take away from our service members but a day to realize how much we did sacrifice. You can read about it here.

When I think about sacrifice, I think about motherhood in general. When I think about military sacrifice, I think of service members putting their lives on the line for this country. But rarely does anyone think of what mothers sacrifice for our children to join the armed forces.

This is what I sacrificed. I sacrificed my firstborn and my only son, the son I had at a very young age, the son I raised alone. I gave my son to the military with his life in their hands. It's a scary, sad, and terrifying moment.

So though I hate to take the "thank you for your service" for my son's service, I realized they know that I have sacrificed too. And I have sacrificed more than most parents ever would want to. I have also sacrificed my feelings on the matter for my son to achieve what he wanted.
